Thom Jurek (born 1958) is an American music journalist , publicist, and poet.

Life and work

Jurek grew up in and around Detroit, Michigan. As a teenager, he began writing about music. His reviews, interviews, and articles have appeared in magazines and journals such as Rolling Stone, Creem, Musician, Spin, American Songwriter, Paste, Interview and Rock and Rap Confidential. He has also written liner notes for several albums.[1][2]

From 1990 to 1996, Jurek was one of the editors of the weekly newspaper Metro Times in Detroit.[3] Since 1999 he has been the senior editor of Jazz/Pop at the online platform Allmusic, for which he also reviews.

Jurek is the author of two books of poetry, DUB (In Camera, 1986) and Memory Bags (Ridgeway, 1995), the latter illustrated by the French artist Jacques Karamanoukian. He also assisted country music artist Ray Wylie Hubbard with his autobiographical book A Life Well Lived (2015).[4] His fiction has also been published in anthologies such as Long News for the Short Century, Bone Saw and Storming the Reality Studio: A Casebook on Cyberpunk and Postmodern Science Fiction (Duke University Press).
