Tofunmi Akinseye (born 14 October 1992) is a Nigerian entrepreneur and the founder of Savvy Media Africa, known for her work on the West African premieres of Black Panther and Avatar. She has also worked on Orisa and Black Book.
Early life and education
Akinseye is from Ondo State and is the youngest of four children. She studied Educational Management with Economics at the University of Ibadan. She later attended the University of Colorado Boulder for a certification in Principles of Public Relations and Working with Media. In 2024, she received an honorary doctorate degree from Prowess University, Delaware.[1][2][3][4]
Career
Akinseye began her career at 21 years while still at the university by founding Savvy Magazine, a print magazine publication before expanding to Savvy Media Africa.[5][1]
She told Business Day Newspapers the magazine was started to celebrate the excellence and creativity of Africans in various fields. After graduation, she worked as a copywriter at MTN, before leaving the telecom company to focus fully on her business.[4][6]
Savvy Media Africa
Akinseye started Savvy Media Africa to connect talents with their audience and act as a bridge between them. Akinseye started working with Filmhouse Cinemas & FilmOne Group to handle premieres for both Hollywood and Nollywood movies and has worked on movies like Black Panther, Avatar, Orisa and Black Book.[7][8]
Savvy Media Africa was recognized as the 2025 EDGE Outstanding Young Media Agency of the Year at the 13th Marketing Edge Summit and Awards for their growing influence and performance within Nigeria's marketing communications industry and in the digital media space.[9][10]
Awards and recognition
Akinseye was honored as the PR Personality of the Year at the 2023 African Women Awards. In 2024, she was recognized by the Most Influential People of African Descent in the Global Top 100 Under 40.[11][12][13]
