Tommy’s Express, LLC is an American car wash franchise established in 2016 in Holland, Michigan.[1] Tommy’s Express sells express car washes, and is classified as an automatic car wash, using a conveyor belt loading system to pull cars through the wash tunnel.[2][3] Chief Innovation Officer and President Ryan Essenburg is the co-founder of Tommy’s Express, with his father Tom Essenburg, while Alex Lemmen serves as Chief Executive Officer.[4][5]

History
In 1969, Jun and Sonny Essenburg founded Quality Car Wash.[9] In 2001, the Essenburgs took their car wash system equipment to market, which they developed for their Quality Car Wash locations, and founded the car wash systems and equipment company Tommy Car Wash Systems.[10][6]
In 2016, Tom’s son, Ryan, founded Tommy’s Express, bringing the family's car wash system and tunnel designs into the franchise industry.[6][11][12][13]
In 2021, work began on the location of Tommy’s Express’ new corporate headquarters. The building was completed, and the company moved in the summer of 2023.[14][15][16][17] The 245,000-square-foot building consolidates Tommy’s Express and Tommy Car Wash Systems operations under one roof.[18]
Events
In 2021, Tommy’s Express began a Halloween-themed car wash event at a number of locations called Tunnel of Terror. In 2022, over 59 wash sites in North America participated in the event throughout October.[19][20]
Services
Tommy’s Express locations offer four different exterior wash packages for single or monthly membership purchase. Under the Tommy's Express model, wash sites include vacuums and mat washers for public use. The brand also vends interior detail kits at all locations.[21][22]
In 2016 at the launch of the franchise, the company launched their mobile application called the Tommy’s Express app, which is used for car wash membership management, account management, and gift card redemption.[23][22][9]
