Joseph Torngee Malu is a Nigerian plastic surgeon, healthcare entrepreneur, and philanthropist. He is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of EzzyCare, a digital health platform, and the Medical Director of Renew Aesthetics Clinic in Abuja. Malu is recognized for his contributions to aesthetic surgery in Nigeria as the inventor of minimally invasive, scarless liposuction technique.[1]

Early life and education

Malu was born in Audu Village, Tombo Ward, Logo Local Government Area, Benue State, Nigeria. Raised by his uncle, a professor of medicine who mentored him, Malu pursued a career in medicine. He earned his medical degree (MBBS) from the University of Jos. He subsequently completed fellowship training, obtaining fellowship status of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS), the Medical College of Surgeons (FMCS). He also completed fellowship training in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery (FDAFPRS) in Stuttgart, Germany.[2]

Medical career

Malu began his medical career at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, where he served for a decade. Dissatisfied with systemic limitations, he transitioned to private practice, establishing Renew Aesthetics Clinic in Abuja. At Renew Aesthetics, Malu specializes in aesthetic procedures and has developed a scarless liposuction technique aimed at minimizing visible scarring.[2]

EzzyCare

In 2021, Malu launched EzzyCare, a digital healthcare platform designed to connect patients with medical professionals across Nigeria. The platform features a mobile application that facilitates consultations with over 1,000 doctors nationwide, aiming to bridge gaps in healthcare accessibility.[3][4]

Political involvement

In 2019, Malu contested for a senatorial seat representing Benue North-East (Zone A) under the Social Democratic Party.[5] His campaign focused on healthcare reform, education, and rural development[6]. Although unsuccessful, he expressed intentions to remain active in politics to effect policy changes.[2]

Philanthropy

Malu is involved in various philanthropic activities, including funding educational initiatives and providing microloans to support small businesses. He has also partnered with organizations like the Aisha Foundation to assist children requiring medical attention.[2]
