Career[edit]

Tribe Mafia was formed in Austin, Texas underground circles, going from recording their songs in the bathroom of their high school to international touring with Akon in Sao Paolo, Brazil.[2] The group's blend of contemporary rap styles came to life on their 2020 project Teepee Gang.[3][4] The group rose to prominence in the Austin music scene after performing at SXSW 2022 with KUTX THE BREAKS 98.9.[5] Tribe Mafia refined their subdued R&B/Latin-trap formulas on the 2017 EP "For You" before going even harder for 2018’s "The Come Up."[6][7] Although the duo went straight up southern trap on their 2020 eight-track "Teepee Gang," since opening for Akon to a São Paõlo crowd of 60,000 the previous year, they’ve also incorporated dancehall elements to their latest sound. KUTX says "We Matter" is Tribe Mafia’s boldest statement to date. [8]
