Tripmasters, formerly known as Solar Tours, is a travel company founded in 1984 by Maria Checa in Washington, D.C.[1] It specialized in independent trips to Peru, later expanding across Latin America, Europe, Asia, and the Pacific.

Tripmasters was established in Washington in 1984 by Maria Checa as Solar Tours.[2] The company started as a provider of independent trips to Peru to travel agencies and expanded to the rest of Latin America in subsequent years.[3]

In 1997, Rafael Checa, Maria Checa's son, joined the company. The company started selling independent custom trips online and expanded its destinations to Europe.

In 2012, the company changed its name to Tripmasters,[4] and Rafael Checa became CEO.[5]

The company received an A+ rating from BBB (Better Business Bureaus).[2]

Tripmasters made a 20 million investment to develop the hotel Amor Arenal in Costa Rica, which is rated the second most highly rated hotel in Arenal by TripAdvisor.[6]

Tripmasters is based in Silver Spring, MD.[7]

The company has a list of suggested itineraries that can be customized according to budget and time. It curates and recommends hotels, transportation, and activities at each itinerary stop. Destinations include most of Latin America, Europe, Asia, and the Pacific.

It also has booking tools that allow users to build their own itineraries.[3] Tripmasters offers cruises, city tours, jungle trips, and Carnaval specials.[8]

Rafael Checa has been the owner and CEO since 2012.[7][5]
