Trouva was co-founded in 2015 by Alex Loizou, Mandeep Singh and Glen Walker[6]. The funding round was led by BGF, alongside Index Ventures and Octopus Ventures[8].

In June 2018, Trouva announced that it had expanded internationally for the first time with the launch of 20 Berlin boutiques. In November 2018, Trouva continued its international expansion when it launched independent shops from Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Madrid on the platform. In 2018, Trouva announced that it had appointed former Uber and Betfair Executive Niall Wass as Chair.

In November 2019, Trouva raised $21.8 million in further investment from Octopus Ventures, C4 Ventures (founded by Pascal Cagni, former Vice-President and General Manager of Apple), Downing Ventures, BGF and LocalGlobe, taking the total amount raised to approximately $36 million[1]. As of November 2019, Trouva brings together independent boutiques from over 300 European towns and cities on its platform, including Paris, Lisbon, Rome and Barcelona[9]. The marketplace formally announced the launch of its German site trouva.de in 2019[6].
