Ledger is a French startup created in 2015 that conceives cryptocurrency digital and physical wallets.[1].

History[edit]

After having created Coinhouse, a cryptocurrency exchange marketplace, Éric Larchevêque et Thomas France start Ledger in 2015. Their objective is to secure the holding and transactions in crypto-currencies for individual users by designing hardware wallets.

Different products are marketed between 2014 and 2016 under the generic name of "Ledger Nano" and the main cryptocurrencies, as Bitcoin and Ethereum, are supported.

In March 2017, Ledger raises 7,000,000 in a funding round led by MAIF, a French mutual insurance. Part of that money is used to invest a total of 10,000,000 in the construction of a factory in Vierzon, a city in the center of France, after having relied for a long time on China for its production.

In 2018, Ledger announces a partnership with Blockchain.com[2], which sells software wallets, to create a physicial cryptocurrency wallet similar to the Ledger Nano S, the Blockchain Lockbox. It also launches a new and more secure version of its desktop and mobile apps[3]
