Twiggle was a technology company that uses machine learning and natural language processing to develop search technologies for e-commerce sites.[1] In March 2017, Twiggle announced the debut of its Semantic API, its inaugural product, which gives online retailers the ability to enhance their existing search capabilities by adding semantic understanding to their existing search engine.[2]

History[edit]

Twiggle was founded in 2014 by Dr. Amir Konigsberg and Dr. Adi Avidor.[3] Prior to launching the company, Konigsberg worked on human machine interfaces for autonomous vehicles at General Motors. At Google, Avidor led search projects at Google such as Spell Checker, Calculator, and Google Now.

In April 2016, Twiggle obtained a $12.5 Series A investment led by Naspers, a multinational internet and media group whose portfolio includes e-commerce giants Flipkart, Souq.com (acquired by Amazon in March 2017 for $580 million), and Tencent (SEHK 700). Yahoo! Japan, State of Mind Ventures, and Sir Ronald Cohen also participated in the round. In May 2016, the company raised an additional $5 million from Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba.[4][5] In May 2017, Twiggle raised an additional $15 million lead by MizMaa Ventures and Korea Investment Partners.[6][7]

Twiggle shut down in 2019. [8]
