Víctor David Sánchez Rodríguez (January 30, 1995 – March 28, 2015) was a Venezuelan professional baseball pitcher in the Seattle Mariners organization.

Career[edit]

Sánchez signed with the Seattle Mariners as an international free agent in August 2011.[1] He made his professional debut with the Everett AquaSox in 2012.[2][3] He started 15 games and went 6–2 with a 3.18 earned run average (ERA) and 69 strikeouts over 85 innings pitched. In 2013, he pitched for the Clinton LumberKings. On July 18, he threw a no-hitter, becoming the youngest player in Mariners organization history to throw a no-hitter.[4][5] He finished the year 6–6 with a 2.78 ERA and 79 strikeouts over 113 innings.

While in Venezuela on February 15, 2015, Sánchez was swimming when he was struck by a boat; he was taken to a hospital with critical injuries. He underwent surgery to repair a skull fracture and was reported to be in "serious, but stable" condition following the operation.[6][7] He died from his injuries on March 28.[8]
