VIDA is a San Francisco-based online retailer that sells apparel, home decor, accessories, and protective face coverings that are printed with designs submitted from artists and designers around the world. Its products are printed on-demand with images uploaded to its site by artists.

VIDA was founded in 2014 by Umaimah Mendhro;[1] that year it raised $1.3 million in venture capital seed funding.[2]

The company sources textiles from other countries and gets Modal from Pakistan and cashmere blends from India. VIDA also works with printers in those same locations.[3]

VIDA’s products are created by transferring art onto clothing, home decor, and accessories.[4] Designs for the products they sell come from artists from across the globe who submit their designs for consideration through the VIDA website. Artists whose designs are chosen receive 10% from the sale of each product that inclues their artwork.[1]

The company uses three main printing methods to transfer art to merchandise: direct-to-fabric digital printing;[5][6] printing on paper that transfers to fabric; and printing onto pre-stitched garments.[1][2] Products are manufactured on demand once they are purchased online.[1]

During the COVID-19 pandemic, VIDA began carrying cotton and disposable face masks.[7][8] VIDA has a partnership with TerraCycle to recycle their disposable masks. Every mask purchased comes with a pre-paid, pre-addressed envelope so used masks can be returned to VIDA, which are then sent to TerraCycle for recycling.[9][10]

The company sources materials from textile mills and factories in Pakistan, India, and Sri Lanka that pay employees a living wage.[11][1]
