Vasiliy Pavlovych Olshanskyi (Ukrainian: Василь Павлович Ольшанський, romanized: Vasiliy Pavlovych Olshanskyi; July 3, 1944 – November 9, 2021) - was an applied mechanic and Professor of Mechanical Engineering.

Biography[edit]

Olshanskyi was born in the village of Golinka, Romny Raion in the Sumy Oblast.

In 1961 he finished high school in the Lokhvytsia district of the Poltava Oblast.

In 1967 he graduated from the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute in the Faculty of Engineering and Physics.

From 1967 to 1971 he did postgraduate research at the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute, ultimately receiving his doctorate.

From 1971 to 1975, Olshanskyi was a research assistant at the Institute of Problems of Mechanical Engineering, USSR Academy of Sciences.

In 1975 Olshanskyu began working as a senior lecturer.

From 1967 to 1971 he worked as a senior lecturer at the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute in the Department of Wheeled and Tracked Vehicles.

In 1979, Olshanskyi moved to the Zaporizhzhya National University, where he was an associate professor.

From 1980 he worked as a senior lecturer at the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute the Department of Higher Mathematics.

In 1984 he became an associate professor, and gained full tenure 8 years later in 1992.

In 1990 he was awarded the Doctor of Science (DSc) Degree from the Kazan University for his work.

In 1992 he was awarded the title of Professor from the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute.

From 1992 to 1971 Olshanskyi was the chairman of the Department of Fundamental Disciplines and Applied Mechanics at the National University of Civil Defense of Ukraine.

From 2005 until his death in 2021 he was a Professor of the Department Theoretical Mechanics and Machine Parts at the Kharkiv Petro Vasylenko National Technical University of Agriculture.

Vasiliy Olshanskyi died on November 9, 2021, at the age of 77.
