VEILED EXPERTS is a free-to-play, team-based tactical third-person shooter currently under development by NEXON Games and published by NEXON.[1][2] The game was initially known as Project D to Korean players when it was announced in November 2021.[3] The game seems to draw inspiration from well-established titles in the genre, such as the Counter-Strike series, Playerunknown's Battlegrounds, and Rainbow Six: Siege.[1][2]
Gameplay[edit]
VEILED EXPERTS is a tactical third-person shooter game set in a near-future world. The game revolves around team-based tactics, where players select one of the game's agents to play as. Each agent comes equipped with unique abilities called Leptons, and an extra set of Leptons is further customized before joining a match.
VEILED EXPERTS offers a diverse range of firearms, and players can purchase their preferred weapons using coins from the market menu at the beginning of each round. Notably, players need not repurchase their firearms upon dying during the round, distinguishing it from other games in the genre. However, throwable and consumable items and gadgets are lootable by both enemies and teammates.[4]
The game features a useful mechanic where players can draw on the mini-map, facilitating team-based strategic planning.[5]
Competitive[edit]
The Competitive game mode is based on the classic Search-and-Destroy game mode of the shooter genre. In this mode, the attacking team aims to plant bombs known as SEED on designated sites, while the defending team strives to fend off the attackers. Players do not have mid-round respawns. The players are rewarded with coins for winning rounds and earning eliminations.[2]
Casual[edit]
The Casual game mode offers the same Search-and-Destroy mission as the Competitive mode but features different numbers of rounds played out and choices of team upgrades.[2]
Team Deathmatch[edit]
The Team Deathmatch game mode follows the classic 5v5 all-out elimination mode, where players aim to achieve a higher score within the given time during a game.[2][6]
Development[edit]
VEILED EXPERTS held its first closed alpha test in South Korea from December 2 to December 16, 2021.[3] The game followed this initial test with a series of smaller sessions from February to May 2022 for the Korean testers.[7][8]
In May 2022, NEXON Games officially announced the game's title as VEILED EXPERTS through a press release, revealing the game's upcoming global service on Steam.[7][9]
On June 9, 2022, the game's global beta test with limited access began, and it ran until June 26, 2022.[4][10][11]
The game announced the final beta test with limited access from March 30 to April 6, 2023.[12][13][14]
