Venus Remedies Limited is an Indian multinational pharmaceutical company headquartered in Panchkula, Haryana; they are manufacturers and sellers of generic pharmaceutical products. The company has two manufacturing facilities located in India and Germany [1]. The company has a global presence in around 70 countries.

History[edit]

Venus Remedies was established by Mr. Pawan Chaudhary in 1989 as “Venus Glucose Pvt. Limited”. The name of the company was later changed to “Venus Remedies Ltd” in 1994[2]. It started its production in the year 1991 with Intravenous/Intramuscular (IV/IM) injectable forms at its running unit. Following which the company introduced eye/nasal/ear drops. In the same year, the company was also certified as 'WHO-GMP' (Good practices in manufacturing and quality control) as specified by WHO [3]

Global Expansion[edit]

2003: Venus Remedies started to export in the overseas market

2005: Venus Remedies launched its Brand 'Ronem.' [4]

2005: Venus Remedies enters into an Agreement with Merck Specialties Pvt Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Merck Ltd, Darmstadt, Germany, for its Oncology range of products.

2007: Venus Remedies Ltd signs an agreement with M/s. Pharma Match R&D B.V., a company based in Amsterdam, Netherlands, for jointly preparing, registering and marketing an EU eCTD Dossier for the latest generation Carbapenem Injectible.

2009: Venus Remedies Bags Product Patent from South Africa for POTENTOX [5]

The company offers products and formulations in various pharmaceutical areas, such as Analgesics, Antipyretic, Anti-diabetics, Antibiotic, Cardiology, Disinfectant & Antiseptic, Gastro therapy, Hormone (Steroid), Neurology, Iron Supplement, Oncology, Pain Management, Respiratory, Skincare, Stress-relievers, Urology, Vitamins / Minerals / Nutrients, as well as Wound Management.

Research and Development[edit]

Venus Remedies is known for its research and development initiatives and breakthroughs. The company is backed up by high-tech manufacturing facilities accredited with national and international certifications including the GLP.[12][13] They have a couple of manufacturing units in India at Baddi and Panchkula and one branch in Germany. Venus Medicine Research Center (VMRC) is one of the first few R&D centers in the world working on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), focusing on superbug tackling solutions under patent protection. The company could foresee the fading of the potential of antibiotics a few years back, and it is the result of its focused approach that today it has the SUPERBUG tackling solutions under patent protection.

Venus Remedies is among the top ten leading fixed dosage injectable manufacturers in the world [14]They mainly manufacture in the field of antibiotics and oncological therapies; with a product pipeline of 75 niches, it has gained success in terms of 84 patent products that they have acquired globally.

PLEA Initiative[edit]

Venus Remedies is actively involved in research about antimicrobial resistance (AMR). In the last two decades, the reduced effectiveness of antibiotics has allowed the company to focus on the rapid growth of bacterial resistance against traditional antibacterial. [15]

Venus has continued to progress in its oral antibiotic therapeutic pipeline for the treatment of drug-resistant infections. Preclinical trials and animal studies are currently being conducted on the most advanced candidates.[16]

The research about Antimicrobial Resistance has enabled the company to develop antibiotic stewardship through its PLEA campaign (Preserving Life of Existing Antibiotics). Every year, PLEA volunteers reach out to over 50,000 healthcare professionals in India to raise awareness about the prudent use of antibiotics and the importance of maintaining a sanitary hospital ecology. Furthermore, PLEA's social media efforts reached over 1 million people worldwide in 2018, and Venus planned to extend its reach in 2019. [17]

Operations[edit]

Venus Remedies Limited has three manufacturing units, Two in India and one in Germany. The Indian manufacturing facilities located in Panchkula, Haryana and Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, have received Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certification specified by the World Health Organization (WHO) for quality management. The company's facility in Germany follows EU–GMP norms. [18]

In 2014, The unit in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, obtained good manufacturing practises (GMP) certification from Indonesia. The Indonesian National Agency for Drug and Food Control (NADFC) issued the certificate following an extensive evaluation and audit of the facility. [19]

The operations began in 1991 by manufacturing intravenous (IV) and intramuscular (IM) injectable forms. Currently, the company is focused on analytical and chemical research on Antimicrobial Resistance, Formulation of non-patented chemicals and development of new NDDS (Novel Drug Delivery Systems).
