Vijay Kumar Aggarwal is a criminal lawyer[1] in Courts of India. He is best known for handling the 2G spectrum scam case[2] and $2 billion Punjab National Bank Fraud Case, 2018.[3][4]

Early life and career

Vijay Kumar Aggarwal was born in 1969 in Delhi. He studied BCom from Hansraj College of Delhi University where he obtained I.C.W.A, FCA and LLB.[citation needed] Aggarwal has been practicing in the courts of India, Supreme Court of India, Delhi High Court and other high courts since 2000.

In one PIL filed by Vijay Aggarwal, the Delhi High Court held that all accused persons who are being prosecuted for offences punishable up to 7 years and have been in prison for more than one year should be released immediately on bail, and accordingly four hundred and twenty people were immediately released.

He is also a member of the Indian Supreme Court Bar Association.[5]

Notable cases

  • Vijay Kumar Aggarwal is defending Nirav Modi for the Punjab National Bank Fraud Case, 2018 ($2 billion fraud case with Punjab National Bank).[6][7] Further, while defending Nirav Modi's case, Aggarwal proved in Bombay High Court that Kavita Mankikar's arrest was illegal. Kavita is an employee of Nirav Modi.[8]
  • Mr. Aggarwal represented Swan Telecom promoters Shahid Usman Balwa and Vinod Goenka in the 2G spectrum scam case where Anil Ambani & Tina Ambani appeared as witnesses.[9]
  • Aggarwal also represented chartered accountant Rajesh Agrawal, who was also arrested by the ED in connection with the Misa Bharti Money-Laundering case.[10]
  • In 2017 Aggarwal appeared in support of Sandeep who filed an FIR against Radhika Ghai Aggarwal, owner of ShopClues, in a defamation case which was quashed.[11]
  • Aggarwal defended Gaurav Gupta, a Delhi-based jeweller, who died in 2018.[12]

Controversy

In 2011, The Bar Council of Delhi found Aggarwal engaged in two professions, chartered accountancy and advocacy, simultaneously. However, Aggarwal denied the charge and said though he has a chartered accountant's degree, he is only involved in the profession of law.[18]
