Ramakant Gaur (Hindi: रमाकांत गौर) generally known as R. K. GAUR is an eminent Indian Criminal lawyer[1], motivational speaker and well known face of Panel discussion in indian press and media industry. He has been practicing criminal matters in Delhi High Court, Bombay High Court and Supreme Court of India.
Early and personal life[edit]
Ramakant gaur was born in Meerut,Uttar Pradesh, in a middle class family, his father is a sanskrit teacher in Meerut and his mother was a house wife. He secured an LLB degree from the Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut in 1995.
Career[edit]
Ramakant Gaur is a defense lawyer for the complex litigations of Economic-Corporate-real estate disputes involving the criminal laws. He is famous for examining the matters closely like an investigator; ponders the prosecution's point of view and then envisions the strategy for the defense, with his substantial experience as defense lawyer.
He was enrolled as a lawyer in 1996. As a defense lawyer, he specialises in criminal law, white-collar crimes and cyber frauds. He has appeared in almost all the High Courts located in different States in India and he has successfully led the biggest gold smuggling case of India against the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence[2] He has aptly handled the biggest Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002[3][4], case against any individual in the World [5], prosecuted by the Directorate of Enforcement. He excelled in prosecution cases instituted by the Indian Dept. of Customs & Central Excise, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence (DGCEI), Central Economic Intelligence Bureau, Enforcement Directorate, Economic Offense Wing and Crime Branch of Multi State Jurisdictions, Income Tax dept. etc. He has efficaciously pleaded as defense attorney in the cases involving prevention of money laundering laws, Anti-Corruption laws & Drugs laws and laws related to Cryptocurrency..
He has also arrayed the constitutionality of some provisions of Delhi Sales Tax Act in Supreme Court. He has created a new perspective in the bailability of the offenses under the Customs Act and Central Excise Act, which led into various twist and turns of development of these Statutes. He has contributed in various high profile cases under Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002[6] & Foreign Exchange Management Act and laws related to Cryptocurrency.
He is an erudite speaker, writer and active in social issues[7][8]. He is a well known speaker on on social and electronic media. Gaur also lectures in various universities and law schools[9][10] in India and abroad and and has attended several in various international and national conferences.
