Wade Martin
Wade Martin Handley (born October 20, 1979) is an English-born artist better known as Wade Martin,[1] music producer[2] and founder of JWMS (the umbrella corporation for JWM Records and WM Studios).[3] Martin is the co-owner of IME Records with Darryl "D.M.C." McDaniels (of Run–D.M.C.).[4][5]
Martin has worked with artists/bands like Will.i.am,[6] Icona Pop, Flavor Flav, Wyclef Jean, Katy Cappella, DMX (rapper), Nas, R. Kelly, Britney Spears,[7] Millionaires (group), Carrot Top, and The Rolling Stones.[8] Martin has also worked with record labels from Def Jam Recordings to Interscope Records and has guest judged on FOX's American Idol and The X Factor.[3][9] Martin designs his own recording studios and oversees the businesses.[3]
In August 2017, Krankz Audio brand signed a development agreement with Wade Martin to collaborate on the development of the Krankz Studio / Wade Martin signature line of studio headphones.[10]
Early life and career
At age 8 he wrote his first song.[5] By age 17, in the Canary Islands, Spain, he was successful in making income in music and selling cassette tapes from his car.[5] As a teenager, Wade Martin was a performing artist and opened for bands like Guns N' Roses.[9] In addition he wrote, recorded and sang "A song for you" that cracked the U.S. top 40 in 2005.[8] He later took a hiatus from touring, and began focusing only on writing and recording music. He moved to the United States when he was 18.[11] By 24, he achieved success by producing for names such as: 50 Cent, Nas, and R. Kelly. He has worked with artists and bands like Will.i.am, Britney Spears, Icona Pop, DMX, Flavor Flav, Wyclef Jean, Steve Aoki, Carrot Top, Rolling Stones and many more.[5]
He plays more than 20 instruments. On most of his productions, he has also played all the instruments.[12]
WM Studios
In 1996, WM Studios was founded in Europe by Martin.[7] The company is a subsidiary of JWM and is held collectively by JWM Enterprises.[7]
In 2005, Martin opened WM Studios, a new Pro Tools-based facility in Phoenix, with hardware provided by Los Angeles-based MW Audio.[12] It has been ranked as the 7th best studio in the world.[4][5] The Phoenix location was hand built by Martin and was the first console size touch screen interface created for a recording studio. Wade collaborated with Doug Dyer from Sound Thinking who encouraged him to implement the idea for the new studio and to interface with Pro Tools. The live room and vocal booth feature LCD screens on custom arms in lieu of traditional music stands making things more efficient for artists to edit their lyrics and much more.
In 2013, Martin opened another WM studio in Las Vegas.[13] The studio consists of a large control room, small live room, a large vocal booth, a grand piano room, and a private bar with seats. These rooms are fully equipped with the latest state of the art equipment with touch screens in all rooms to help artists interface with Pro Tools or work directly with their lyrics without the need of assistance from the engineer.[14] The place has its own clean power grid making it possible to continue working even when there is no power in the city. The control room is also acoustically designed to give deaf people the power of sound.[3]
