Walter Wittmann (13 March 1948 – 18 June 2020) was an Austrian chess International Master (IM) (1981), a seven-time Austrian Chess Championships medalist (1975, 1979, 1981, 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989).
Biography[edit]
From the mid-1970s to the end of 1990s Walter Wittmann was one of the leading Austrian chess players. He has participated many times in the Austrian Chess Championships finals and winning 7 medals: two silver (1985, 1987) and five bronze (1975, 1979, 1981, 1983, 1989).[1]
Walter Wittmann has had several successes in international chess tournaments, including second place in Reggio Emilia chess tournament (1980/81, after Nils Renman)[2] and the first place in Oberwart (1998, together with Vereslav Eingorn, Konstantin Lerner, Nikolaus Stanec, Ognjen Cvitan and Zigurds Lanka).
