Watanabe Haruto (2004) (Korean: 하루토; Japanese: ハルト) is a Japanese rapper and lyricist under YG Entertainment. He is a member of the boy group TREASURE.
Biography[edit]
Haruto was born on April 5, 2004 in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, where he was raised with both his parents and his younger sister. When he was young, both of his parents and Haruto were fans of BIG BANG and 2NE1. His parents often invited Haruto to watch their concerts in Japan. His motivation has been to study rap and dance since he was young.[1] In 2017, he registered as a trainee in YG Entertainment Japan branch, when he was just 12 years old.[2]
While reuniting with the Japanese branch, Haruto was introduced as Tim J in the survival program YG Treasure Box in 2018. He attracted attention with his heavy voice and during the show 'Dat $tick' by Rich Brian.[3] In the selection, the first day entered the line-up debut along with 6 other participants.[4] Unfortunately, in the second selection, there was a battle with the individual contestants who did not enter the line-up debut. In the third selection, he formed his song-themed battle unit with Park Jeongwoo, performing the song 'OH YEAH' by GD & TOP (ft. Park Bom), defeating Mashiho and Kim Junkyu.
At the fourth selection, Haruto returned in the line-up debut TREASURE 5. In the final selection, Haruto joined forces with the rapper to perform 'HIT ME' by MOBB (ft. KUSH) and was eventually selected as the first permanent member and the only original member of the Japanese group TREASURE 7.[5][6]
After all the members of TREASURE 7 were introduced in January 2019, the agency announced that they would be releasing another group as a result of the selection YG Treasure Box named MAGNUM 6, consisting of 6 people including 3 members of Japanese origin. Both groups will be active together in the name TREASURE 13.[7]
Unfortunately, in January 2020, after Ha Yoon Bin decided to end his contract with the agency, the group was re-introduced as TREASURE, with 12 members.[8] Gradually TREASURE began to be introduced through various content, starting with their own series of events titled TREASURE MAP, content interacting with fans, T.M.I (Treasure Maker Interaction), and some video music covers such as 'Stuck it up' by Liam Payne (ft. A Boogie with the Hoodie) performed by Haruto with Park Jeongwoo.[9]
On August 7, 2020, Haruto debuted with Treasure with the debut single 'Boy',[10] and is involved in writing rap lyrics for this song. TREASURE received the award 'Rookie of the Year' from Asia Artist Awards and Golden Disk Awards. Apart from music, Haruto became active with other members in his own show, Treasure Map and Treasure Studio with LINE FRIEND and made his acting debut through the web-drama 'It's Okay, That's Friendship' which was broadcast through the channel YouTube TREASURE (트레저). His acting abilities were further proven after he played the character in the web-drama "The Mysterious Class" produced by YG Entertainment along with Bamboo Network.
Currently the group, Treasure, consists of 10 members (including haruto), as two members left the group in 2022 for personal reasons[11]
