History[edit]

WazirX was founded in March 2018 by a computer engineer Nischal Shetty with two co-founders. Soon after WazirX was launched, the Government of India banned crypto trading in the country.[3] Two days after the ban WazirX launched a peer-to-peer system which would link sellers and buyers directly and eliminate the need of financial institutions. At the point of its launch no other exchanges has this feature that helped the company to grow rapidly.[4]

The global cryptocurrency exchange Binance acquired WazirX in November 2019.[5][6]
