Search Will You Snail? on Amazon.Will You Snail? is a 2022 platform video game created by German indie developer Jonas Tyroller. The player controls a small blue snail called Shelly. The goal is to each to the end of level. With the Artificial intelligence antagonist sentient named Squid, it predicts your movement, laying traps in different places depending on how you act.
Development was supposed to be completed in two weeks, but ended up taking four years to make. Influences include GLaDOS from Portal 2 for the character, and Super Meat Boy and Celeste for the difficulty. It was published by Tyroller and No Gravity Games and released on March 9, 2022.
Reception was received positively from game critics for its unique gameplay and soundtrack, although reaction to the story was mixed.
Gameplay and plot
Will You Snail? is a two-dimensional puzzle platforming game. The player controls a small blue snail called Shelly. Each level has its own theme. With Artificial intelligence, it alters the rules based on difficulty.[1] The AI will adjust challenge based on your performance. The AI predicts your movement, laying traps in different places depending on how you act.[2] The goal is to make it to the end while hazards constantly changes. Hazards include turrets, underwater level, and boxes. At the end of each of the chapters, there is a boss fight.[2][3]
The AI, who's an antagonist sentient AI named Squid, takes delight in the suffering of people and wants you to do the same.[4] Between the two characters, in the form of a conversation gradually get more and more stark, eventually revealing a threat to the entirety of humanity. The snippets of the story can be found through hidden conversations scattered throughout the levels. There are over a thousand lines of narration from Squid.[5][better source needed]
Development and release
Will You Snail? was development by German indie developer Jonas Tyroller,[6] whom previously was known for helping to make Islanders and would later help make Thronefall.[7] It started out as a “silly little side project” before eventually becoming into a game that Tyroller spent four years working on.[8] The project was supposed to be completed in two weeks. AI Squid was influenced by GLaDOS from Portal 2. The difficulty was influenced by Super Meat Boy and Celeste.[9]
Will You Snail? released on March 9, 2022.[8] With help from the publisher No Gravity Games, It was sold digitally on Nintendo Switch via the eShop.[10][11]
Reception

The gameplay was praised by critics for its uniqueness.[14] Rapid Reviews UK praised its "variety of different gameplay styles" and called it "enjoyable".[15] Generacion Xbox criticize that the gameplay might be "complicated for less seasoned players."[16]
The story got a mixed reception. Nintendo World Report called it "a bit hard to follow."[14] Rapid Reviews UK said the "lore segments were surprisingly enjoyable" but also stating the it was "seamless and cohesive".[15]
The soundtrack was also praised. Rapid Reviews UK called it "atmospheric and calming".[15] PCZone called it "so arresting at first, but more of a grower than a shower."[17] GameSpot listed it as one of the best Nintendo Switch platformers.[18]
