Windermere Ramleela is a three-hour long theatrical show of the Ramayana epic.[1][2] It has been produced by Brijeshwar Singh of the Rang Vinayak Rang Mandal (RVRM) at Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, India.[3][4] The show has been directed by Ambuj Kukreti.[5][6][7] It is staged at Windermere Theatre in Bareilly for nine consecutive evenings during Navratra every year and culminates with a grand show on Dussehra.[8]

Source Texts

Windermere Ramleela is predominantly based on Ram Charit Manas by Goswami Tulsidas, Pandit Radheshyam Kathawachak's Ramayana and Arya Sangeet Ramayana by Sardar Yashwant Singh.[6][9] It is also influenced by Uttarakhand Leela compiled by Chhammi Lal Dhondiyal.[9]

Narration

The narrator in Windermere Ramayana tells the entire story in shlokas from Manka Ramayana – another version of the epic that consists of 108 shlokas.[10] The author of Manka Ramayana is unknown. The set design, the costumes and the props have been done by the artists of Rang Vinayak Rang Mandal.[7][9]
