Yangon American International School (Yangon American) is an independent, co-educational day school operated by London-listed Myanmar Strategic Holdings (MSH).[1] The Yangon American campus is located in a north-central district of Yangon, Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
American Curriculum[edit]
For the opening school year of 2019-2020, Yangon American will offer an American-based curriculum for students in Pre-Kindergarten (ages 3-4) through Grade 3 (ages 8-9).[2] Over the course of the next several years, the school will add a grade level per year and eventually offer Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12.[3]
Yangon American is associated with International School Services ("ISS") and TIE Online, from which it recruits qualified and experienced native English speaking classroom teachers. The majority of the teachers come from the United States; however, staff members from many countries are represented at Yangon American. Class sizes vary with the maximum number of students per class set at 20 students.
Yangon American is focused on preparing its students for university and beyond by providing a rigorous education in a safe and nurturing international learning environment. The proposed Yangon American International School targets to comply with Common Core State Standards adopted across the U.S. and to align its curriculum with programmes such as the International Baccalaureate.[4]
Campus[edit]
The campus will have a planned capacity of 400 students and will have administrative offices, 12 individual classrooms, two learning resource centers, a canteen, an open-air sports complex as well as indoor and outdoor playgrounds which will spread over 36,500 square feet.[5]
