It is the first official international school on Koh Phangan[1] [2] that operates following the British International Curriculum however there are several international schools open to international students in the locality.

School Profile[edit]

Si Ri Panya caters for children aged 5 to 12 years, teaching a full international British curriculum.[3] As of September 2022 classes for secondary students are due to commence with a year 7 class (age 12-13 years) and planned expansion into year 8. The school states that 'through a balanced mix of education and social interaction, we empower our young children to respect, value and develop a love of learning, through a fun and engaging curriculum.' The curriculum involves a variety of subjects and relevant world-wide issues such as sustainability.[4] British National Curriculum is adapted into a whole school big idea on a termly basis, divided into three topic areas across the Key Stages of learning. A topic-based approach to teaching and learning allows many areas of the curriculum to be connected and integrated. The curriculum is designed to encourage active learning. More experiential learning intends for students to relate to their experiences evidenced by research as resulting in more successful learning. An up-to-date, relevant topic-based curriculum aids students in understanding how various subjects are interconnected just as in ‘real life’ thus preparing them for the adult world outside the education system. Enabling students to see the bigger picture of their learning by making connections across different subjects from various perspectives ensures deeper understanding ensuring a greater success rate of facts, skills and knowledge acquired is committed to long term memory. Examples of topic areas undertaken at the primary level (American English: elementary) are saving our planet, through the eyes of an artist, international community. Learning styles are varied enabling all student learning styles to be accommodated. Each topic theme at the school includes: learning in the community; parent workshops; child as the teacher or Leader; class presentation of learning to the school community or wider community, for example, an exhibition, a parent assembly.

Mathematics[edit]

Si Ri Panya International School follows the British National Curriculum and the White Rose Maths scheme which is informed by the work of leading maths researchers and practitioners across the world.

Whole school learning days[edit]

Each term the usual routine is put aside for a schoolwide day to learn about specific subject areas sharing individual areas within classes and presenting to the rest of the school at the finale of the day. Examples include a religious education day focusing on one religious festival and ceremony per class; a mindfulness day; an e-safety day.

Class Learning Journals[edit]

Classes produce a class learning journal to supplements students’ work completed individually. The class learning journal contains examples of the following: work completed throughout the term; photographs of children working/learning; photographs of children’s work; quotes from children; photographs of classroom displays; topic trips or learning in the community; workshops and assemblies.

Lunch[edit]

The school lunch menu has been featured online[5] having collaborated with local vegan restaurant Orion Café, a plant-based restaurant located at Orion Healing Centre [1] The school has an inclusive international cohort and caters for a variety of diets in its lunch time menu.
