Yaqub Nizami (Urdu: یعقوب نظامی born 15 April 1955) is a U.K based Urdu writer who is best known for his book PAKISTAN SAY INGLISTAN TAK[1][2] ( پاکستان سے انگلستان تک). The book is about the history of Asian immigrants in the UK. He has written 7 travelogues, two history books and two autobiographies. In addition he interviewed Asians and published their stories in the Urdu Newspaper daily Jang London under the title Wilayatiya (ولایتے) from 2012 to 2016.

Personal Life[edit]

He was born at Tatapani, district Kotali in Azad Kashmir Pakistan (During the temporary migration of his family). His father, Molvi Mohammed Ismail, was a well-respected religious leader (Imam مسجد امام). Soon after his birth, the family moved back to their original village Salwa, in Mendhar, district Poonch of India.

He spent his childhood in Salwa and completed his primary education from Salwa School. In October 1965 his family migrated again to Pakistan, this time permanently. At first he stayed in Mirpur, then moved to Gujranwala but came back after two years and settled in Mirpur Azad Kashmir. After completing his secondary education from Pilot high School and Degree College Mirpur, he graduated from Punjab University Lahore Pakistan in 1982.

On 11th December 1982 he migrated to the U.K to join his wife Shamim Nizami. In 1994 he did a post graduate diploma in translation from Institute of linguist London. In 1987 he joined Sheffield City Council and served as an Urdu/ Punjabi translator. In 1992 he joined Manchester City Council as Deputy Manager in Translation/Interpretation department.

He has three daughters, Nafeesa , Shamaila , Sadia and a son, Khurram Nizami. All his children have graduated and his wife Shamim Nizami teaches English at Bradford College. His elder brother, Ayub Sabir, is an Advocate, other brother Salah Mateen retired as DEO and younger brother, Dr Yousaf Tariq, is a Dental surgeon. One of his nephews, Ilyas Ayub, is principal of AKAB School for blinds, in Mirpur and Mohammad Musa is principal of Uni world school Gujranwala

Career[edit]

He started writing in 1990. The well known Urdu writer Mahmood Hashmi[3], who wrote the famous classic book Kashmir Udas hay کشمیر اداس ہے , was his mentor. His first book Pakistan say Inglistan tak was published in 1995.

Travelling, reading and writing are his hobbies. He has travelled around most of the Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia.

In 2015 his work was recognized by Azad Kashmir University and one of the students, Noor al Ain, has completed her MA Urdu with a thesis on Yaqub Nizami’s Life and contribution to Urdu Adab. Also another student from Lahore College for Women University, Aneesa Khalida, has done her M.Phil. Dissertation on Yaqub Nizami’s travelogues.

Dr. Neama Mustafa Ibrahim El Ganeiny Lecturer at Al-Azhar University, Faculty of Humanities, the Urdu Department "Sinai" has written  a critical study of Yaqub Nizami travel book Misr ka Bazar مصر کا بازار and published in Al-Azhar magazine. Also Mohammad Raiz from Punjab University Lahore review a critial study on Yaqub Nizami travel book Miser ka bazar مصر کا بازار and published in Al-Qalam , institute of Islamic studies , university of Punjab Lahore.

Travelling, reading and writing are his hobbies. He has travelled around most of Europe , Africa , Middle East, Far East and Asia.
