Early life[edit]

Koded was born in Kisii and raised in Kariakor, a neighborhood in Nairobi, Kenya.

In an interview, Koded stated that he moved to the United States in his teenage years, where he began his music career as a producer. He attended Harrison High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado.[2]

Career[edit]

Koded began his musical career while still in 2017, originally making music with the name Myzz Kings on SoundCloud and other platforms like Spotify, but most of his old releases have since been deleted from the platforms.[3] After releasing the original version of his breakthrough song "Mteja" in 2019, he signed to Chinatown Music Group, along with AWAL distribution.[4]

He officially began his career in 2020 after Kenya's top bloggers "Nairobi Gossip Club" posted snippets of his releases "Tulia" and "Mteja" on Instagram. In early 2021, he was featured on Boomplay's Boombuzz Kenya, who compared Koded to American Roddy Ricch.[5]

In 2021, he collaborated with some of Kenya's rapper, Trio Mio, and Khaligraph Jones.[6][1]
