Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu is the first lady of Kebbi State in Northern Nigeria, a paediatric Consultant, a cancer control advocate, and the founder of Medicaid Cancer Foundation, a nonprofit that provides support to guide people through the cancer experience & brings every hand together to fight cancer. She is the medical director of Medicaid Radio-Diagnostic Center, based in Abuja Nigeria.
Early life and education[edit]
Zainab was born to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Umaru and Rakiya Shinkafi in Sokoto. She is the eldest of 5 children. She is married to Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu,the governor of Kebbi State, in the northern Nigeria.
Career[edit]
In 2002, Zainab set up and headed the Paediatric[1] Unit of Garki Hospital with a pioneering Public Private Partnership (PPP) scheme with the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
After successfully managing the unit, she established Medicaid Radio-diagnostics Abuja In 2009. In response to needs that were made more apparent by results from the diagnostic centre, she founded Medicaid Cancer[2] Foundation. The foundation creates awareness, prevention, treatment and diagnosis of Cancers across the country. The Medicaid Cancer Foundation has sponsored treatment over 300 cancer patients and over 10,000 screenings.
