Ayodeji Abass Aleshinloye (born 1963) is a Nigerian politician and author. He currently serves as Chairman of Oluyole Local Governement in Oyo State.[2][3][4]

Background[edit]

Prince Ayodeji Abass Aleshinloye was born into the royal home of Olubadan Abass Aleshinloye in Isale Ijebu Area of Ibadan. His great grand father, the patriarch of the Aleshinloye family was Oba Abass okunola Aleshinloye, a wealthy Nigerian titled chief who became the Baale and later Olubadan of Ibadanland, it was during his reign that the colonial authorities changed the title of the Ibadan traditional head from that of baale to Olubadan and also under him, Ibadan became an independent Native Authority free of Oyo. Olubadan Abass Aleshinloye was thus regarded as the first Olubadan of Ibadanland. He succeded Ba'ale Oyewole Foko who reigned from 1925 to 1929 and he ruled Ibadanland till 1946 when he died and was succeeded by Olubadan Akere.[5]

Early career[edit]

Aleshinloye started his primary education at Islamic Primary School in Olunloyo area of Ibadan and concluded it St John's Primary school in Ago Owu. His post primary education took him to St Patrick secondary school, Bashorun, and he ended it at the prestigious Loyola College in Ibadan. Ayodeji Abass 's quest for Tertiary education began at University of Ife now known as Obafemi Awolowo University where he studied Microbiology. He later went to the premier university in Nigeria, the University of Ibadan for a Post Graduate Diploma.[6]

Political career[edit]

Aleshinloye's political career started in his student days at the Obafemi Awolowo University where he was elected as the Chairman of his Hall of residence, Adekunle Fajuyi Hall. In 1989,he became the president of his departmental association, the Microbiology Student Association. That same year he was elected the deputy speaker and later he bacame speaker of the student Union of the school in 1990. The annulment of the June 12, 1993 general election believed to have been won by the late Chief MKO Abiola and the need to resist autocratic military rule was the needed tonic to bring out the activism in the Ibadan born prince. Being the national coordinator of the student wing of the Campaign Organization of MKO Abiola Which was named HOPE 93, he organized several peaceful rallies and protest across the country to push for the reinstatement of the winner of the election.[7]

At the inception of the fourth republic in 1999, he joined the Alliance for Democracy and he was appointed by the late Governor of the state Alhaji Lam Adesina as the Chairman of Oyo State Youth Council (now Oyo State Agency for Youth Development). In 2011, Governor Abiola Ajimobi appointed him as the Caretaker Chairman of Oluyole Local Government and he was elected as the secretary of {Association of Local Governments in Nigeria} in Oyo state.[8]

Achievements as Chairman Oluyole Local Government[edit]

Oluyole Local Government under Aleshinloye has focused on improvements in the areas of education and training, health care delivery, road and infrastructural facilities maintenance.[9]

Education and Vocational Training[edit]

Aleshinloye built several blocks of classrooms and equipped them with state of the art learning materials, he also distributed free books to students of public schools in the local government[10] His administration also partnered with the British American Tobacco Nigeria which has one of its biggest factory located in the local government to build an ultra modern vocational centre to equip youths of the local government with the various skills needed to be self reliant. [11]

Health Care Delivery[edit]

One of the major priorities of the administration is the delivery of qualitative health care, in view of this it embarked on the rehabilitation of health centers across the local government and equipped them with drugs and other facilities required to function optimally. It also partnered with several Non Governmental Organizations to ensured success in this regard. Among this is the local government's partnership with Lion's club for the provision of surgery and free eye glasses for people in the area with eye challenges.

Road and Infrastructural Development[edit]

Aleshinloye recorded a significant success in this area. several roads and toilet facilities were provided among which were the gbanlepanu New Garage road and Ashipa to Academy road construction of a block of three classrooms with headmaster's office and toilet at Kolajo Primary School, Olomi; and construction of 48 open stalls at Liberty academy market.[12][13]

Honours and Awards[edit]

Aleshinloye won the Grassroots Implementer of Good Initiative Award for implementing environmental and people-oriented programmes at his local government along with Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State , Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State.[14][15][16]
