Zayeed Bin Waleed (born 16 April 2002) is an Indian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Kerala Blasters FC in the Indian Super League.[1][2]
Early Life
Zayed attended trials for the India U-17 team when they held it in the UAE, where he has spent the last 10 years of his life. He missed out as he was born on April 16, 2002, and was deemed too young. Things could have turned out differently for Zayed if he had stopped trying after that. But the young kid and his football-loving dad had other ideas.[3]
The father-son duo follows Barcelona religiously and have developed a special bond thanks to football. It was Zayed's father who spotted his talent at an early age and took him to the Manchester United Academy in the UAE.
From there, he joined the Manchester City academy and was called up to their developmental squad. Later, he joined the Al Ethihad Sports Academy, where he met Sahal Abdul Samad who was his senior. The passion for football that his dad cultivated helped Zayed get into the Du LaLiga High-Performance Centre (HPC). They helped the teenager further explore his talent.[4]
Zayed is a midfielder who is comfortable with the ball at his feet and can play all across the attacking band of three. After his 12th grade was completed, he signed up with a football agency and he attracted interest from Indian Super League clubs Jamshedpur FC, Kerala Blasters and I-League side Indian Arrows.
The Kerala-born player chose to return home and return to his roots despite Jamshedpur's offer and an opportunity for a trial at Arrows. He will play the upcoming 2019-20 Indian Super League season in Kerala Blasters.[5]
