Zilliz is a global technology company focused on developing high-performance, cloud-native data management solutions tailored for artificial intelligence and machine learning applications[1].
The company's primary products are Milvus[2], an LFAI open-source distributed vector database, and Zilliz Cloud, a fully managed vector database cloud service (SaaS).
History
Zilliz was founded in 2017 by a group of engineers aiming to build infrastructure for managing large-scale unstructured data through AI-native architectures[3]. In 2019, Zilliz released Milvus, which later joined Linux Foundation as an incubation project in January 2020 and became a graduate[4] in June 2021.
In 2018, Zilliz secured $10 million in Series A funding, led by Morningside Venture Capital and Yunqi Partners[5]. In November 2020, the company raised a $43 million Series B round led by Hillhouse Capital. This was followed by a $60 million Series B+ extension in August 2022, led by Prosperity7 Ventures[6] , bringing total funding to over $113 million.
In November 2022, Zilliz Cloud became available and ready for enterprise production workloads[7]
In February 2024, Zilliz launched a Bring Your Own Cloud (BYOC) deployment model, enabling users to deploy Zilliz Cloud’s data plane within their own virtual private clouds, enhancing data control and compliance.
