Alijan Alijanpour (born 1954) is an Iranian-Canadian painter who works primarily in Persian miniature. His works have been exhibited in various countries and recognized by cultural institutions in Iran, China, and Canada.[1][2] In 2022, his painting Freshness received both the Award of Merit and Honorable Mention at the SCA’s 54th Open Juried Exhibition.[3][4] His work has been profiled in both Canadian and international media.[5][6]

Early Life and Education

Born in Iran, Alijanpour studied traditional Persian miniature painting (Negargari) under master-apprentice guidance. In 1996, he received a First-Class Art Certificate from the Iranian Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.[7] He is also officially registered with the Iranian Handicraft Organization.

Artistic Style

Alijanpour’s miniatures combine classical Persian motifs with contemporary interpretation. His themes include Sufi mysticism, feminine archetypes, and literary symbolism from poets like Rumi and Ferdowsi. In a 2025 interview, he described his work as “not decoration, but philosophy.”[8]

Career and International Exhibitions

Alijanpour has participated in exhibitions across Iran, China, Greece, France, and Canada. In 1996, he was officially assigned by the Islamic Culture and Communication Organization to represent Iran at the Cultural Week in Greece.[9]

In 1998, he presented his painting Universal Mother at the Iranian Miniature Masters Exhibition at the China National Art Museum in Beijing. The Chinese Ministry of Culture described him as “one of the most famous Iranian artists today.”[10][11][12]
