The 1947 Sirhind train massacre was an attack on Rupar ‘s prosperous, wealthy and influential muslim clan Abbasi Shekhaan of Shekhaan Miran locality of Rupar city. It killed 2000 Muslims of this clan and only a dozen people of clan survived. [1]
Incident[edit]
On Monday September 1st, 1947, a train left Rupar with Sheikh families of Abbasi Shekhaan clan. When train reached the Sirhind railway station at 10 PM it was attacked by Sikh, Hindu armed bands and Miltary of Patiala State. This slaughter lasted for approximately four hours.[2] [1] [3]
On Tuesday September 2nd 1947, the train involved in the attack went to Ambala with corpses. Remaining corpses scattered on the railway platform were collected and set on fire.[4][5]
