Académica made two more wins with a score 0-2, first to the weak Ribeira Grande, then to Benfica and the club was second. Académica lost to the powerful Boavista 0-1 and lost a position to third, where they were at the sixth round with 12 points and had the second most goals with ten, second behind Celtic and Sporting Praia. Académica defeated Desportivo and started their six match winning streak, in a match with Bairro, they won 2-1 and was the last goal conceded away to date. In the same time, Lito transferred from Sporting to Académica Praia as coach of the club while Janito left. Académica Praia had a six match winning streak and lastly defeated the newcomer Tira Chapéu and kept that club in the possibly planned relegation zone, Académica had 33 points. A goal draw with Travadores was made on January 29 (Académica's next Premier Division draw in 15 matches) and thus ended a possibility of having the same record as Sporting did last season in point totals. The club was second in the regional goal totals with 29 scored, second behind Boavista and still does at the 14th round as another draw was made for Académica with Sporting without any goals scored. Another victory for Académica over Ribeira Grande was made on February 9 and 150% (1 1/2) more goals as they finished with 5-0, they had scored 34 goals, a goal more than last season and higher than the previous eight seasons. On February 18, Académica made their second straight win as they defeated Benfica Praia 4-1 and had a total of 41 points and 29 goals, their point total has now become fifth overall since three points for a win was implemented in the mid 1990s, it surpassed their 40 point total made in the 2008-09 season, their goal totals finally matched that of the 2003-04 season. Their third straight win came as they defeated Boavista (a revenge over their last loss in their last meeting on December 10) with the score 0-1, low for Académica as they just had 39 goals in total which they became second overall behind their totals made in the 2007-08 and the 2008-09 Santiago South season. Académica had 44 points which had yet to reach or surpass the pinnacle of their overall 45 points made in the 2003-04 season and last season (2016-17), their totals was second, Académica had 14 wins, which tied their record made in the 2003-04 season. Académica made their fourth straight win as they defeated Desportivo with the low result of 1-0 but the club finally reached into club record in points 47 and also their 15 wins. Their win totals were even with Sporting Praia's last season as they had 15 wins. Straight win no. five came to Académica after another victory over Eugěnio Lima on March 11 and the club finally made the region's most wins numbering 16 since the 2015-16 expansion to 22 annual matches, also they got its 50th point, there in goal scoring, Académica may had reached a new pinnacle of 43 goals. At round 20 on March 14, Académica made another surprising victory (17th seasonal) with a 3-0 over Bairro, their club records continue, especially in points which had 53 and became second in Santiago South, beating Boavista's 2016-17 record. Four days later, with Boavista's match with Eugênio Lima ending in a draw, Académica, who has an eight point difference over second placed Boavista became regional champions and claim their next regional title in nine years at the 22nd round, also alongside Sporting, the recent national champion, they will appear in the upcoming national championships in April. Académica's winning legacy continues and made their seventh straight with a win over Tchadense, also Académica finally reached a new pinnacle in regional point record with the number 56, overcame Sporting's 55 made last season. Académica. Of any in Cape Verde, it is third behind Scorpion Vermelho's 61 and Tarrafal's Varandinha's 63, both of the Santiago North Premier Division made in 2016, these numbers for any Santiago South club were unbeatable this season again. Celtic Praia was their season's final match, their seven match winning streak and their 15 match unbeaten streak came to an end as Académica suffered another loss with the score 1-2 and shattered another record attempt.
