Plot[6][edit]

The beginning of the film introduces the information that earlier in the day, the Chinese government announced it was investigating an "outbreak of a respiratory illness in the central city of Wuhan" referencing the COVID-19 Virus. The scene then cuts to Gary (Michael Dooley) at a New Years Eve party in 2019. He promptly falls down the stairs after exiting the party, and is rendered unconscious.

The scene then cuts to a montage of news clips from various points in the year 2020. The clips cover topics from the Taal Volcano Eruption on January 22, 2020, Donald J. Trump's State of the Union Address on February 4th, 2020, and the onset of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Following the montage, the scene fast forwards to December 2020. Gary emerges from an elevator in MAS Law Firm in a hospital dressing gown. He sees that all the office equipment is covered in plastic tarp, and there is no one in the building. He wanders into a conference room where he finds his friend Stacey (Keri McCormick), on the phone. Stacey is shocked to see Gary awake, and yells at him to stay 6 feet away from her and put a mask on. After a heated exchange regarding proper mask etiquette, Gary pleads with Stacey to explain what has been going on.

Stacey begins detailing the events of the year, starting with the death of Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant, the result of president Donald J. Trump's impeachment trial, and the origins of the COVID-19 virus. Gary becomes more shocked and despondent with each revelation. Towards the end of their discussion, Stacey offers statements of hope before telling Gary to go home, and that he can use Mr. Modjarrad's office to call his family.

When on the phone with his family, a janitor enters Mr. Modjarrad's office singing Unchained Melody by The Righteous Brothers. After ending the call, Gary tells the janitor that he looks a lot like his boss. The janitor removes his face mask to reveal that he is in fact his boss, Mr. Modjarrad. Gary is immediately shocked and apologetic. Mr. Modjarrad sits down, pours himself a glass of whiskey before saying "2020 Sucks."
