The 46th President of the United States, Joe Biden, will give his first public address before a joint session of the United States Congress on a date to be announced.[1] Similar to a State of the Union Address, it will be delivered before the 117th United States Congress in the Chamber of the United States House of Representatives in the United States Capitol. Presiding over this joint session will be the House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, and she will be accompanied by Kamala Harris, the Vice President of the United States in her capacity as President of the Senate. It will mark the first time two women in the capacity of presiding officers will sit on the rostrum during a joint session address. President Biden is expected to present his economic recovery proposal to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.[2]
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic and the 2021 storming of the United States Capitol, additional security and health measures are being coordinated by the Sergeant at Arms of the United States House of Representatives and the Attending Physician of the United States Congress,[3] with potentially a smaller number of members of Congress, government officials, and invited guests being present in the chamber of the House than at a typical State of the Union or Joint Session.
