A Kaliyamurthy (born 30 October 1952) is a 1976 batch Indian Police Service officer who served in the Tamil Nadu Police Services in different roles and assignments at Trichy, Coimbatore & Chennai. He later became a motivational speaker after his retirement.[1][2]
Early life[edit]
Kaliyamurthy was born in Budalur, Thanjavur District, to a farmer family.
Police career[edit]
in 1976, Kaliyamurthy joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) and served for over 35 years. He is known for his outstanding service and bravery in the police force, particularly for his role in the arrests of terrorists responsible for a 1996 train bombing and underground mafias responsible for the murder of a Chennai lawyer in 2001.[1][3]
He was awarded the Best Intelligence Officer's Gold Medal and the Gallantry Medal for his efforts. He also led a successful effort to eliminate rowdyism in the Delta Districts and won a Gold Medal for his work.[4] Additionally, Kaliyamurthy holds a Guinness World Record for giving speeches on 76 different stages in 100 days. He is also known for providing low-cost and free medical services in his hometown.
Awards and recognition[edit]
He represented Tamil Nadu in the All-India Police Duty Meet (AIPDM) and shooting competitions held in Nasik (1980), Lucknow (1983), and Kashmir (1986) where he won three Gold Medals.
In 2008, he was awarded the President award for meritorious service by President APJ. Abdul Kalam.[5][6] He is known for his overnight arrest of 100 burglars at Ramji Nagar, Trichy in 2008 and also helped in their rehabilitation.[7]
He received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” from P. Sathasivam (former Chief Justice Supreme Court of India) for his motivational speeches given in many public places including schools, colleges, universities and abroad.
Tamil Nadu Educational Department honored Kaliamurthy by placing one of his speeches about the importance of education in the 11th standard general Tamil New Syllabus.
