Albrecht Conze

Albrecht Conze (born on June 2,1954) is a former German diplomat and UN peacekeeper who has served in various African countries for many years. In August 2020 he has joined the Berlin office of Dentons Europe LLP[1][2], an international law firm, intending to provide services to German companies engaged on the African continent. Before this appointment, he has served as Ambassador of Germany to Benin (2006-2008), Zimbabwe (2008-2011), Bangladesh (2012-2014) and Uganda (2017-2020).

Dr. Albrecht Conze was educated at the universities of Freiburg, Heidelberg, Geneva and Cambridge. He holds a doctor iuris in International Law from Freiburg University. From 2011 to 2012 he spent a sabbatical at Harvard University as a Fellow of the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs.

After joining the German Foreign Service in 1981, Conze was posted to Hong Kong, Beijing, Vienna, Warsaw, Tunis and Moscow.

He has been a senior UN peacekeeper twice, with [[United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo|UNMIK]] (Kosovo, 1999-2000) and MONUC (DR Congo, 2004-2006). As a Special Advisor to the European Commission he established the European Union Stabilisation Mission EUCAP Sahel Mali at Bamako in June 2014 and stayed on as its Head until 2017.

In July 2020, Albrecht Conze completed his tenure of service in Uganda.[3] On July 17, 2020, The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Mrs. Janet Museveni, bid farewell to the outgoing Ambassador of German and was invited to participate in the bilateral negotiations to refine the German Government's programme of co-operation with Uganda[4], so that they can present more concrete information on the areas the Ministry would like to prioritise.

Starting from August 2020, Dr. Albrecht Conze Global represents the global law firm Dentons in the Energy Regulatory and Sovereign Advisory field (within Europe and Africa). He will support German investors in their business activities in Africa - in particular concerning energy and infrastructure projects. Albrecht brings to Dentons a wealth of experience from his distinguished 30-year diplomatic career. As the former German ambassador to Benin, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and Uganda, Albrecht advised and assisted many German companies in their investment and trading activities[5].
