Early life

Alen Slavica was born on December 23, 1964 in Karlovac. According to his father, Mirjan from Šibenik, he spent his summer holidays in Lozovac near Šibenik and at the Krka waterfalls. According to his mother, Đurđa Karlovčanin, he grew up with his parents and sister Ivana, completing elementary school "Lola Ribar" and secondary school "Technical Center Marijan Čavić", and throughout his education he also attended the Karlovac Music School.

Alen showed talent and love for music and singing from early childhood, so he sang from a young age. In his autobiographical book "Životni autoput"[1] he says:

As for singing itself, I only know that it has been in me since I was born. At school, at shows, on the bus, when we went on trips, I entertained the whole class with a song. It seemed to me somehow that I was destined to become a singer.

With his peers Robert, Hrvoje, Duda, Mane and Gala, he founded a band called "From extreme necessity to phenomenon", and they had some concerts and various performances around Karlovac, for example in Hotel Korana, and at various rock events.

Career

At his first public performance in 1977 at the festival Prvi glas Karlovac in Karlovac, he won first place with the song "Malinkonija" by Oliver Dragojević. So, already in 1979, he received an invitation from the Association of Karlovac Musicians to represent his town Karlovac at the Croatian Festival of Amateur Singers in Sisak, where he performed the song "Jedina žena na svijetu" by Đelo Jusić. The prize for winning first place was the recording of an LP record with Đelo Jusić, but instead of an LP, the first album called "Alen 1" was recorded when he was 16 years old.[2] The second album "Alen 2" followed immediately after that.[3] He recorded the next six albums with Đorđe Novković, in 1983 "Budi dobra", 1986 "Stepenice do neba", in 1987 "Šarene oči", in 1988 "Ispod tvog jastuka" and in 1989 "Dao sam ti dušu".

Alen writes music and lyrics for the following albums, which were created in 1994/95: "Ti si moja sretna zvezda", and in 1997 "Pod krilima neba", which were recorded in Hamilton in the studio of John Seteja, who produced and did the arrangement, and for some songs the lyrics were written by Alen's friend and manager at the time, Vlado Miljan. The album "Toliko malo" was recorded in Los Angeles in 2006, arranged and produced by Tihomir Borošak. Already with the album "Pod krilima neba" he began cooperation with world musicians.

Canada and US years

At the end of 1989, at the invitation of John Lončarević, he went to Canada, where he performed for the new year in 1990, and went on a tour of Canada with Kićo Slabinac, but also held several solo concerts. After finishing the tour and returning to Croatia, he returned to Canada after only two months, which turned into eleven years of living on a route of six months in Canada and six months in Croatia. So there he recorded the albums "Ti si moja sretna zvijezda" and "Pod krilima neba" in collaboration with excellent musicians, including a duet with the Canadian pop singer Carol Medina. He performed several times around the USA for the diaspora in that area, so since 1999 he has remained permanently in the USA. When there were no performances or concerts, Alen played instrumental music and Dalmatian melodies in an Italian restaurant, which was well received by the Italian audience. He also worked at Guitar Center in Hollywood as a salesman for three years. After Guitar Center, he took over the job of representative of the company "Marshank sale", where he represented studio equipment and microphones Audix in the area of Southern California.

Comeback

At the "Dalmatinska šansona 2006" festival, he marked his return to the music scene with the song "Masline" accompanied on guitar by Miroslav Tadić, and also held various concerts and performances throughout Croatia, Macedonia and Serbia.
