Alex Blue (born April 12, 1992) is an American singer and songwriter. Her music career began in 2010, when she started uploading covers of songs to YouTube under the name Alex G. At the time, she was an eighteen-year-old high school student.[1] Her YouTube channel has now amassed over 1.5 million subscribers.[2]

In 2020, Blue began performing under her married name, Alex Blue.

Career[edit]

Blue has been writing songs since she was nine years old.[3] She began her YouTube channel at age eighteen, in 2010. Blue began releasing albums of cover songs in 2011.[4] By 2014, this had expanded to original music.[citation needed] She also went on a North American tour with fellow YouTube creator Tyler Ward.[5]

In 2020, Blue began performing using her married name. According to her interview in Tribe Herald, Blue thought that "Alex G" was “a name that I did not choose for myself” that described “a girl who makes YouTube.” Blue chose to use her married name because it represents her true self.[3] Since announcing her name change, Blue has put out several singles and an EP entitled Good Company.[6]

Personal life[edit]

Blue is bisexual.[7] She was married to her wife, Torri, on October 11, 2018. [8] They have one son, Auden.[9]

Blue was raised Christian, but converted to Judaism after exploring her family's religious roots and finding deep meaning in her Jewish identity.[1] She was initially attracted to the resilience of Judaism and its people, and credits Jewish values for providing her with a sense of freedom. [10]
