Alexander "Alex" Ndawula (sometimes spelled as Alex Ndaula.[1]) was a Ugandan radio host and disc jockey.[2][3] He was commonly known for his work on 91.3 Capital FM as the host of Dance Force, The Big Breakfast and The Overdrive Show from 1995 to 2017 when he retired from radio.[4]

Early life and Education[edit]

Alex was born on 8 January 1963[5] in New York, USA, to Emmanuel Ndaula and Mary Frances Musoke Ndaula. His father worked at the Ugandan Embassy in the United States while his mother worked at the UN Secretariat. The family relocated to Uganda after his father passed away from cancer when Alex was eight[6] Alex Ndaula briefly attended Nakasero Primary School in Kampala for his primary before joining St.Mary's School in Nairobi in Standard 3. After a few years, he moved back to Uganda where he attended St.Mary's College, Kisubi and thereafter Namasagali College the present Kamuli District for his A-Levels[7] for his secondary school.He started school in Uganda and completed both his O and A levels in Uganda before graduating at Nakawa Technical Institute.

Career[edit]

Ndawula started his radio career at Sanyu Fm in Kampala in 1993. He moved to 91.3 Capital FM in 1993 where he hosted the breakfast show, The Big Breakfast with Christine Mawadiri and Zizinga. He stayed on the show while his co-hosts left and were replaced by others. On the Big Breakfast, Ndawula also co-hosted with Karitas Karisimbi, Lillian Mbabazi, Oulanya and Gaetano Kagwa. He also hosted The Dance Force, a Saturday night dance show which he was also popular for, as well as co-hosted the Home Run Team, later named The Overdrive with Lucky Mbabazi and Patrick Salvador Idringi. He then left Capital Fm and briefly joined Jazz Fm. He was immediately replaced by DJ. Will as the host of "Dance Force.[8][9]

Death[edit]

On the evening of the 6th June 2022, at the age of 59Ndawula passed on at St. Francis Hospital, Nsambya, where he had been admitted.[10] The news was broken by Capital Radio management, where he had worked for over 23 years. He was described as a star, a legend and a veteran radio personality.[11][12][13][14][15]

Personal life[edit]

Alex Ndawula had a younger sister[6] who was living in the United States as of July 2015.
