Ali Shawqi (Arabic: علي شوقي , born 2001 in Basra) is an Iraqi professional footballer who currently plays for Al-Mina'a in the Iraqi Premier League.[1][2]
Club career[edit]
Shawqi was born in Abu Al-Khaseeb, east of Basra. He started his career with Al-Minaa's academy. Once he turned 16 years old, Shawqi moved to Al-Noor SC. Then he returned to Al-Minaa one season later and promoted to the under-20 side.
On 18 June 2018, Shawqi made his debut in the Iraqi Premier League in a 0–0 draw against Al-Najaf after the club's players abstained from playing due to the administrative and financial problems, and the U-20 players climbed to their place to complete the remainder of the league matches.[3][4] Shawqi scored his first senior goal on the 27th of June 2018, the match, Al-Minaa lost 2–1 in favor of Al-Samawa.[5]
On August 12, 2018, Shawqi moved to Al-Bahri and played a full season, during which he scored two goals, the first against Al-Minaa and the second against Al-Diwaniya,[5] before the team Relegated to the Iraq Division One, where the team occupied the penultimate place in the league.[6]
On 18 September 2020 Shawqi moved again to Al-Minaa, with a two-season contract.[7]
