Abdul Abbas Ayad (Arabic: عبد العباس إياد‎; born 13 March 2000), is an Iraqi professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Al-Mina'a in the Iraqi Premier League.[1][2]

Club career[edit]

Ayad started practicing football at the Al-Talaba Academy, and when he reached the age of 15, Al-Talaba coach Ayoub Odisho decided to include him in the first team, and since his debut, the player was considered a rising talent after he presented a distinguished level, after the coach changed the player's position from a sweeper to a defensive midfielder.[3]

On February 7, 2018, during the winter transfer period, Ayad was loaned to Al-Hudood to get more minutes of play,[4] and he made a good addition to the team, and at the beginning of the next season, the Al-Hudood club management decided to sign the player permanently, and he moved to Al-Hudood on 28 August 2018.[5]

On August 7, 2019, Ayad signed with Al-Naft,[6] and on February 6, 2020 during the winter transfer period, he was loaned to Naft Maysan Club.[7]

On June 27, 2020 Ayad sign Al-Mina'a.[8]

International career[edit]

On July 29, 2015 Ayad made his international debut as he played a full match as a centre back for Iraq U-16 against Jordan in the 2015 WAFF U-16 Championship, the match ended with a 5–0 victory for Iraq. On August 4, 2015, Ayad scored his first international goal in this tournament against Palestine in the match that ended with a 3–0 victory for Iraq. Iraq won the tournament after defeating United Arab Emirates in the final.[9]

On October 18, 2017 Ayad began the play as a centre back for Iraq U-17 against Mexico in the U-17 World Cup, the match that ended in a 1-1 draw.[10]

On January 8, 2020 Ayad began the play as a defensive midfielder for Iraq U-23 against Australia in the AFC U23 Asian Cup, the match that ended in a 1-1 draw.[11]
