Abbas Badie (Arabic: عباس بديع‎ , born 9 January 2000), is an Iraqi professional footballer who plays as a defender for Al-Mina'a in Iraqi Premier League.[1]

Club career[edit]

Abbas Badie started playing football at the Al-Mina'a Academy, at the age of sixteen he was promoted to play in the first team, but he did not formally play any games for the team, and in the following season, 2017–18 season, he made his first appearance in the Iraqi Premier League in Al-Minaa's match against Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, which ended with a 1-1 draw.[2] Badie's contract was renewed for a new season to play in Al-Minaa with a new coach, during which he played 17 league matches and one match in the cup.[3] In the 2019–20 season, the Al-Minaa administration contracted with the Romanian coach Valeriu Tița, where he banished many players and formed a new team capable of competition,[4][5] and Badie was among the players he chose to continue with the new team.[6][7] Badie played 8 matches and scored his first goal in the league on February 17. 2020 in the Al-Minaa match against Naft Al-Janoob, which ended 1-0 for Al-Minaa, in the Basra derby, when the coach changed the player's position from a defender to a defensive midfielder.[8] but the league was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic caused this goal to be officially canceled.[9]

International career[edit]

In 2018, Badie was called up by coach Qahtan Chathir to play for the Iraq U-19 team in the 2018 AFC U-19 Championship,[10] he appeared in the match against Thailand U-19, which ended in a 3-3 draw,[11][12] In 2019, he was called up by coach Abdul-Ghani Shahad to play for the Iraq U-23 team.[13]
