Amir Shaheed (born June 18, 1992), known professionally as Amir and previously as Bravo.[1], is an American recording artist, singer and songwriter from Los Angeles, California. He rose to attention in 2017 when he filed a lawsuit against Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment, Inc. and One Direction for copyright infringement over the song Drag Me Down [2].
Early life[edit]
Amir Shaheed was born in Los Angeles, California. At age five, Amir’s mother signed him up for piano lessons at an after-school program in West Los Angeles where he discovered his passion in music. His father was a Television executive producer on many projects, including The Big Break Show[3].
Career[edit]
2014–2015: Career beginnings and lawsuit with One Direction[edit]
Shortly after receiving an associate's degree in arts from College of the Canyons, Amir dropped his first single Grind. He released this single under the label M.I.A Entertainment. In 2015 he released his second single, All My Life[4]also under the label M.I.A Entertainment. The song was released on Soundcloud and months later Amir filed a lawsuit against One Direction when they released Drag Me Down. In the lawsuit Amir claims One Direction stole “significant portions” from his song All My Life[5]
2018–present: Bigger House, death of his father and I Got Somethin To Say[edit]
In July of 2018 Amir released the single Bigger House [6]on multiple digital platforms. Two weeks after the release on August 6, 2018 Amir’s father passed away from congestive heart failure. His father’s sudden death caused Amir to take a hiatus from music which lasted a year, during which Amir states he fell into a depression[3]. After his music hiatus Amir released his first EP I Got Somethin To Say[7]again under the label M.I.A Entertainment.
