Andrea Desmond is an American singer and songwriter. She is a recording and performing artist based out of Los Angeles. Her musical styles span modern pop, and electronic.
Life and career[edit]
In high school, Desmond's electronic music composition teacher took note of her musical accomplishments and offered her a private composition mentorship with composer Alan Stein, composer for Anheuser Busch. Desmond worked with Stein for about two years.[1]
Desmond began attending Emerson College and later transferred to Chico State University, where she received a bachelor's degree with Honors in Music, with an emphasis in composition. While attending college, Desmond started her own band and signed on to student record label Wild Oak Records.[1] At this time, Alan Menken mentored and trained her in professional songwriting.
Andrea's interest in music began in her youth.[2] For a time she worked as singer and keyboardist for a cover band working casinos in California and Nevada. Desmond left the cover band in 2012 to pursue a solo career.[3]
In 2012, Desmond moved to Seattle and formed a band.[3] She won first place for her song "Run" in the Eco Arts Awards: Songs of Freedom Competition.[4] It was there that her band was also runner-up of the Seattle Jammin' Challenge.
Desmond's band recorded four tracks at Toybox Studios with Justin Cronk of Vendetta Red, and they performed many well-known venues across the city such as the Showbox and the Hard Rock Cafe.[4][5]
In 2013, Desmond signed a contract with indie label Spectra Records, who released her EP Open Spaces. During this time, her song "Run" won the Akademia Music Awards, and Spectra Records nominated her as Best Singer in the Shorty Awards.[4]
Since moving to Los Angeles in 2014, Desmond has worked with John ‘Sly’ Wilson. Desmond also began collaborating with Natalia Bortolotti. In 2017, her single "Inner Fire" marked a shift in towards more pop-inspired music. She debuted this single when she opened for Regina Spektor at the Anaheim House of Blues.[6][7]
In 2018, she was signed to Love Harmony Records and started working with Creative Music Agency' for management.[8] Desmond is also co-writer on songs for Warner/Chappell.
