Anticorona flag

In the second half of March 2020, a solidarity movement with the medical staff emerged spontaneously in Belgium. Belgians began to display white flags without any additional symbols on their homes. White as a color that is characteristic of the uniforms of doctors, medical nurses and technicians.[1][2][3] They were joined in the action by the Royal Palace of Brussels, displaying a white flag on March 23 2020 and posting a photo on their Twitter profile.[3] The Palace intends to express its solidarity with the nursing staff.[1][2][3]

The white flag generally stands for surrender. From this perspective, the Heraldry Society of Slovenia Heraldica Slovenica took the Belgium initiative and added to flag a heraldic and symbolic representation of coronavirus and solidarity with medical workers.

Meaning[edit]

Symbol presents the victory of health care over the epidemic. White field is overlaid by the Rod of Asclepius, the symbol of healthcare workers and medicine, rising over the defeated and overturned crown (Lat. corona).[4][5][6][7][8]

Use[edit]

The flag soon became internationally recognized and the Slovenian government adopted it as a logo for the national mobile software application for digital tracing of COVID-19, #OstaniZdrav (#StayHealthy).[9][10]
