AskMeBazaar is an online marketplace founded in 2012. It is based in India and sells products across varied categories including lifestyle, fashion, home décor, electronics, auto and sports and health among others. It works on the concept of what it calls a marketplace, connecting the buyers and sellers at one place. The e-commerce player is owned by Getit Infoservices Private Limited and follow a vendor-managed inventory model. As of May 2016, the online marketplace operated in 50 cities with a yearly Gross merchandise volume of approximately $800 million.[1]

Background[edit]

AskmeBazaar was started by founder and CEO, Kiran Murthi, an alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology Madras and Indian Institute of Management Bangalore.[2]

The product portfolio of AskmeBazaar ranges across categories like home and office, grocery, medical equipment and furniture.[3] The firm has siblings like online grocer AskmeGrocery for fresh grocery, AskmeFresh for perishable grocery,[4] AskmeMeds for pharmacy products, and AskmePay, an online wallet, owned by the same parent company.[5]

Funding[edit]

Ananda Krishnan's Astro Malaysia Holdings, a media and entertainment holding company located in Malaysia has been the chief investor for the E-commerce firm. In February 2016, AskmeBazaar planned to raise the second round of funding and had approached Chinese giant Alibaba Group and Chinese web services giant Baidu.[6]
