Maulana Atiq-ur-Rehman Sanbhali (c. 1927 – 23 January 2022) was a well-known Indian Islamic scholar and author of numerous scholarly and research books.[1] He was the eldest son of Manzoor Nomani.

Life and career[edit]

Maulana Atiq-ur-Rehman Sanbhali was the eldest son of Manzoor Nomani, a famous scholar of twentieth-century in India. His family was an ancient scholarly family. He received his higher religious education from Darul Uloom Deoband, from which he graduated in 1974. Among his famous teachers is Hussain Ahmad Madani. Asad Madani and Muhammad Salim Qasmi were his classmates.[2]

After graduating from formal education, he joined Al-Furqan, a magazine published by his father, and was its editor for a long time. Together with his younger brother Hafeez Nomani, he also launched a newspaper, Haft Roza Nadai Millat, under the patronage of Abul Hasan Ali Hasani Nadwi and Manzoor Nomani. He also played an active role in setting up the Muslim Consultative Council. He later moved to the United Kingdom, where he stayed for a while. From there he continued to write articles and books.[3]

Eventually he settled in India where he lived in Delhi. He passed away on 23 January 2022 after a long illness.[4]
