Specifically in India from 2100 to 2700m in altitude. They are known to be in rocky areas and areas covered in moss. For this species, shaded areas are preferred where sunlight peaks through. This species is a part of the succulent herbs. The roots are rhizomes and can be stemless or stemmed. The leaves have several features such as being palmately, ovate, asymmetrically, or alternate. Male flowers have a perianth of two outer segments, and zero to two inner segments. Perianths are white or pink. Female flowers have a perianth of two to five segments. The outer ones are larger than inner and numerous ovules. Styles are 2-3-4, free or connate at base, and stigmas are tortuously branched. Its fruit are unequally winged, variously dehiscent or breaking up irregularly. Seeds are numerous and minute. The conservation status of Begonia dioica is currently of least concern. There two synonyms currently accepted: Begonia amoena Wall. Ex A. DC. and Begonia tenella D. Don.
