Behind the Gun: Poncho's Last Walk

A memoir by Bravo Charles[1][2] and Earl Almighty[3], Behind the Gun: Poncho's Last Walk seeks to tell America why the events of October 3rd and 4th, 1993 happened in Mogadishu Somalia, an event commonly referred to as "The Battle of Mogadishu[4]" or "Black Hawk Down". Aside from carrying out running gun battles with Somali warlords from day 1 of Operation Restore Hope, this is a firsthand account of the first Americans known to have faced Al Qaeda, and the predecessor to Al Shabaab, al-Itihadd al-Islamiya[5], who became the Islamic Courts that ruled Somalia with an iron fist for much of two decades following the US pullout.

The authors served as members of the legendary 87th Infantry Regiment of the US Army's 10th Mountain Division (Light) and were among the first US troops in Mogadishu, Somalia. They give a vivid and detailed view of everyday life of a light infantry soldier, while describing combat mission after combat mission in the most dangerous country on Earth: Somalia. These events took place long before the days of embedded reporters, leaving America largely uninformed as to what was actually happening during Operation Restore Hope. This memoir also provides a unique and riveting firsthand account of "The Battle of Mogadishu", and the mission to rescue the members of Task Force Ranger.

The book does not seek to draw conclusions for the reader, but rather provide relevant firsthand accounts of the mission.
